The Original Kolady Family Belongs to Veliyankode, West of  Eramangalam on Guruvayur Ponnani Road, about 20 Kilometer from Guruvayur, the famous Pilgrim center of India. The known history of this family starts from later half of 18th century. The then Tharavattu Karanavar (Elder man of the family) was Shri Kolady Govinda Menon. Shri Kolady Govinda Menon started the renowned Pantheerayi (vettakkaranpattu) of Perumudissery Temple. Kolady Krishna Menon (Appu Menon) Meternal gand Uncle of Kolady Govindan Kutty Menon, acquired huge landed properties to the family (Tharavad) between Guruvayur and Ponnani.

 It is said that in the ancient British Malabar, he acquired properties in a life time which nobody else could do. Shri Kolady Krishna Menon Started Navami Vilakku (illumination with Ghee) at Guruvayur Temple During Ekadasi Festival During Guruvayur Ekadasi the Navami Vilakku is considered very auspicious.

 

In 1927 July Shri Kolady Govidan Kutty menon born to the only sister of Kolady Krishna Menon, Kolady Kochu Kutty Amma and her husband Shri. Karumathil Palakkottu Narayana Menon. He is educated in local Veliyankode District Board School and Metriculated in Government High School Chavakkad. His Intermediate courses was at Government Victoria College Palakkad and in 1950 he Graduated from Sree Keralavarma College, Thrissur, in Economics and Politics. He successfully completed his Law graduation from the prestigious Madras Law College.    
In 1958 He Married Dr.Padmam daughter of Karumathil Palakottu Krishna Menon (Kuttappa Menon) and Kolath Meenakshi Kutty Amma , Kottapady and now they have 3 children. Ajith, Amrutha & Aruna. Ajith (Devan) and his wife Shobha are lecturers in Nairobi. Amritha's (Devi)  Husband Shri Sivaprasad  is MD of Kerala Plantation Corporation. Aruna's Husband C.Achuthan is Vice President of Advani Oerlkon, Mumbai.
